The Kenton County Police participate in the Kenton County Regional Swat Team (KCRS) which operates under the authority of the Kenton County Sheriff. The team is also a member of the Kentucky Tactical Officers Association and follows the guidelines of the National Tactical Officers Association which helps uphold standards for SWAT teams throughout the Nation.
As a member of KCRS we provide officers as operators for the team as well as providing crisis negotiators. Selection to the team as an operator involves successfully completing an intense physical and strategical decision-making selection process and demonstrating marksmanship skills. Once selected members will attend basic SWAT school, a tactical combat casualty care course, and begin training with the team. If selected to the team as a Crisis Negotiator the officer must attend crisis negotiator school.
KCRS responds throughout northern Kentucky in its mission to protect life and serve those communities. The team is called upon to assist with high risk search warrants, arrest warrants, barricaded subjects, hostage situations, active shooters, and other high risk scenarios.
