Outdoor enthusiasts will soon have a new way to explore the scenic waters of Doe Run Lake.
On Tuesday, the Kenton County Fiscal Court awarded a bid to Schack’s Yaks, a local kayak rental company, to bring convenient, affordable paddling opportunities to Doe Run Lake.
Starting this spring, visitors at Doe Run Lake can rent kayaks on-site, making it easier than ever to enjoy the peaceful surroundings, spot local wildlife and get out on the water without the hassle of bringing their own gear.
“We’re always looking for ways to enhance our County-owned parks,” Judge/Executive Kris Knochelmann said. “With kayak rentals, we can encourage more residents to get outside and enjoy what makes Kenton County so special.”
All rentals include a universal life jacket and paddle, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for all ages.
The rental process is simple. Kayak renters can download the Koloni app on Android or Apple to sign the waiver, place payment and scan the QR code to open the locker and start their rental.
The company has similar self-service kiosks in Augusta, Carrollton, Newport and West Point.
Doe Run Lake, located in Erlanger, is a 75-acre reservoir known for its calm waters, lush forests and fishing. It also features several trail options for residents. It is one of seven County-owned parks. To learn more about the park, click here.
