In January, federal officials announced a $1.6 billion grant to fund the Brent Spence Bridge corridor project, fulfilling years of effort on the part of local and state officials to construct a companion bridge for the region’s largest bridge. The project also includes 8 miles of highway widening between Dixie Highway in Fort Mitchell and the Western Hills Viaduct in Cincinnati.
In July 2023, Govs. Andy Beshear of Kentucky and Mike DeWine of Ohio announced Chicago-based Walsh Construction and Westerville-based Kokosing will serve as the project’s design-build team.
Construction is expected to begin in late 2024.
