2006 Kenton County Fiscal Court action pertaining to a New Detention Center in Kenton County
July 11, 2006 – Fiscal Court approved contract with Brandstetter Carroll and DLR Group for site evaluation and consultation services regarding the construction of a new County Detention Center.
September 26, 2006 – Fiscal Court approved Resolution No. 06-23 authorizing the County Judge/Executive to secure purchase options on parcels of property for the construction of a new County Detention Center.
October 10, 2006 – Fiscal Court approved Resolution No. 06-25 authorizing and directing the formulation and implementation of a plan to provide for the recovery of costs associated with the financing, site, location and development of plans for design and construction of a detention center and other public facilities construction projects approved by the Kenton County Fiscal Court.
November 14, 2006 – Fiscal Court authorized the advertising and requesting qualifications (RFQ) of architectural and engineering firms. The submissions will be evaluated to select a firm(s) to perform theses services for a new county detention center/site. It is anticipated that an engineering firm will be selected by the end of January 2007, and an architectural firm will be selected by the end of March 2007.
November 21, 2006 – Fiscal Court approved Resolution No. 06-29 authorizing the County Judge/Executive the authority to sign a purchase agreement for a piece of property for the construction of a County Detention Center.
December 11, 2006 – County Judge/Executive, Ralph A. Drees held a press conference and announced the location of the parcel of property for the new Kenton County Jail as lying along the new stretch of KY-17 south of Pelly Road near the City of Independence.
December 12, 2006 – After public comments were voiced during the Citizens Address section of the Fiscal Court Meeting due to the Judge/Executive's press conference on December 11th, the Fiscal Court approved Resolution No. 06-30 ratifying the execution of a purchase contract between the Kenton County Fiscal Court and Liberty Orchard LC, for a 25.5+/- acre parcel of property located in unincorporated Kenton County for the purchase price of $750,000.00 for the express purpose of construction of a detention center/public safety complex in Kenton County.
April 10, 2007 - Resolution No. 07-08 ratification of property purchase for potential jail site.
