Luther Luckett State Reformatory – La Grange KY

The Spring House Estates initiated construction in 1993 and finished the last units in 2001. It is a patio home and detached single family housing development with 168 units currently. This development lies just 1/2 mile SE from the Reformatory. This development actually shares a common property line with the state reformatory.

Blackburn Correctional Complex – Lexington KY

A residential subdivision called Masterson Station (Unit 11-D), across Spurr Road approximately 800' from the Correctional Complex was developed in close proximity to the aforementioned complex.  There is also a subdivision adjacent to the Blackburn property approximately 1150' from the building.  There is a third subdivision close by and a lot for a new school in Masterson. 

Covington, Kentucky -  Since the construction of the current Kenton County Jail at 303 Court Street four major housing developments have occurred.

Riverside Terrace-  This is a multi-story 34 unit condominium community with a clear view of the existing jail. This development was built by The Drees Company in partnership with David Herriman in 1980 and all units were sold out by 1981.  Units in the facility currently sell for from $500,000 to $1.5 million.

Marriott Condominiums-  A condominium development built 2 blocks from, and have clear visual contact with the Kenton County Detention Center.  Units in this development have sold for in excess of $1 million each.

The Ascent-    This is a project under construction 300 feet from the back door of the Kenton County Detention Center.  Units in this project sell for a low of $400,000 to a high price of $5.1 million.

Towne Properties- The Roebling Row Townhomes  have been built 1 block from and in clear view of the detention center. A one bedroom unit rents for $895.00 per month; a two bedroom/two bath goes for $994.00 and a larger two bedroom unit goes for $1,200.00 per month.

In other areas of the state similar development has taken place in the vicinity of a detention center.
