Nine Point Evaluation

Judge Drees's Jail Location

Selection Criteria

  1. First, there is no question that a single story facility is the most cost efficient way to build and operate a new facility.  That was the guiding principle in every parcel that I considered.

  2. Secondly, I was seeking a site with good road access for all law enforcement within the county.

  3. Third, I was looking for a site which had adequate utilities on the site or readily accessible.

  4. Fourth, I was looking for a site with immediate access to mass transit.

  5. Fifth, I was looking for a site for which the county could pay cash, preferably $1,000,000 or less and which could be obtained with the least possible court action.  I was looking for a ready, willing, and able seller.

  6. Sixth, I wanted to have adequate acreage to provide for buffering from residential development.

  7.  Seventh, Sufficient land for the collocation of the County Police and Department of Homeland Security as part of Public Safety Complex.

  8. Eighth, Availability of adjacent land to provide for expansion as demands warrant.

  9. Lastly, I wanted a parcel that had minimal or no environmental impact associated with demolition and/or construction of a new facility.
