Captain Massey is an 18-year police veteran and joined the Kenton County Sheriff's Office with the rank of Sergeant in 2000.  He graduated from Simon Kenton High School in 1987 and continued his education at Northern Kentucky University were he earned his degree.  He is a certified Police Officer, having graduated from The Department of Criminal Justice Training.  In addition to this training he has received hundreds of training hours in law enforcement, investigations, and supervision.  He is the firearms instructor, field training program manager, as well as the accreditation manager for the Kenton County Sheriff's Office.

The Operation Division is made up of ten road deputies,two sergeants, two fugitive apprehension deputies, and one deputy assigned to the DEA task force. In 2008 these deputies attempted 43,870 pieces of court process and served 24,384.  They served 1626 Kenton County warrants, 205 out of county warrants, and cleared 480 Kenton County and out of county warrants.  These deputies also wrote 922 traffic citations and assisted outside agencies 1584 times.

Deputies of this division must complete intensive background checks, including checks of their criminal and traffic histories and character references.  They must also meet rigorous physical agility standards and pass drug tests, psychological evaluations and polygraph examinations.

All deputies complete 18 weeks of training at the state Department of Criminal Justice Training, as well as an extra 14 weeks of training through the Sheriff's Office field training program.  Deputies do not work alone until they successfully complete this extensive training regimen.
