Kenton County Sheriff's Office
Operation Clean Sweep
Sheriff Korzenborn is among three Kenton County law-enforcement leaders honored for his commitment to Operation Clean Sweep, a plan to reduce crime on Covington's East Side.
Gang activity, drug dealing and shootings plagued the neighborhood until the Sheriff, Covington Police Department, Kenton County Jailer and members of the FBI's Safe Streets Task Force worked together. The operation included foot and horse patrols, deputies working undercover and inmates cleaning the streets. In 1999 there was over a 14.3 % decrease in serious crime and much of this can be attributed to operation clean sweep.
The Sheriff and other participants received the Directors Award from the FBI for their efforts --- the only award given out in Kentucky in 1999. |
