THE OFFICE OF JAILER

Kenton County Jailer, Terry Carl and the Command
Staff
The Commonwealth of
Kentucky is the only state in the union that elects a County Jailer as
a bi-partisan constitutional officer.
That is to say that
Kentucky is the only state that the people elect their Jailer in the same
fashion that they elect their Sheriff or other officials.
The constitutional duties
of a Kentucky Jailer are defined within Chapters 71.00 and 446.00 of
the Kentucky Revised Statutes.
All County Jailers are
"Sworn State Peace Officers" as are their deputies with all
rights and responsibilities connected to the power of arrest and other
functions of office.
