Single-Stream recycling means never have to separate your recyclable into different bins. There will be no "paper", "plastic", "aluminum" and "glass" signs. The sorting is done at Rumpke's Material Recovery Facility (MRF) site recently installed to simplify the recycling effort for all of us.
Other Benefits are: Cost-Efficient: Research has shown that single-stream recycling programs are much more cost-efficient than multiple-stream, which require householders to separate their recyclable into newspaper, plastic, glass, cans, cardboard, etc.
Reduced Waste: Because it's easier for householders to toss all their recyclable into one bin for curbside pick-up, the amount of waste they generate can be reduced by up to 50%.
No Need To Separate: A single-stream program collects these materials all mixed together, and drops them at a local transfer station. Then Rumpke takes over and ships them loose to a central processing facility for mechanized sorting.
Effective Curbside Pickup: Recyclables can be collected in 96-gallon bins, by automated-arm trucks or any other type of packer vehicles.
No More Pre-Sorting: The county save on trucking: when drivers don't have to "stop and sort" at the curb, they can make more stops per hour.
Truck Efficiency: This system maximizes the capacity of trucks, and guarantees that each one always carries a full load back to the depot.
Low Capitalization: It has proven that loading recyclables loose is just as effective as loading them baled - so we no longer need equipment such as balers, conveyors or forklifts.
Maximizing Fleets: More work for the same truck. The same truck can be used to pickup recyclables after it's unloaded for trash. The fleet can be reduced. Also, by using the same truck, maintenance, spare parts and training are all the same adding to the savings.
