Each summer, Kenton County Parks & Recreation presents Shootin' Hoops, a free youth Basketball skills program for boys and girls ages 8-18. Shootin' Hoops is intended to promote youth participation in the sport of Basketball and encourage friendly competition.
This year, the contest will be held on Thursday, August 10th from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm at Middleton-Mills Park, located between Taylor Mill and Independence on Mills Rd.
The challenge is to score points within a 60-second time period while shooting from designated spots on the court. No two shots can be made from the same spot consecutively. Making a lay-up and will count for 1 point, a free throw will count for 2 points, and a shot made from three-point range will count for 3 points. Participants must retrieve their own rebounds. Each time a participant makes a shot, he or she will receive points for the corresponding spot.
The top scorers at each of five divisions will win prizes donated by Dick's Sporting Goods. Girls will compete against girls and boys will compete against boys. The age divisions are 8-9, 10-11, 12-13, 14-15, and 16-18.
All participants will be required to complete a registration/waiver form. Age classifications are based upon the participant's age as of August 10, 2006.
For the 8/9 and 10/11 year old age groups, participants may use the youth size basketballs. Participants in the 12/13, 14-15 and 16/18 year old age groups must use the regulation size basketballs, which will be provided.
