Reforest Northern Kentucky at Kenton County's Middleton-Mills Park ~ CAN YOU DIG IT?
April 4, 2009
Can You Dig It? WNKU-FM 89.7 and the Northern Kentucky Urban & Community Forestry Council, along with many other event sponsors, will present an adventurous undertaking (Get it? "undertaking"? OK, that was a stretch) of planting 1,800 trees in Kenton County's Middleton-Mills Park ~ IN ONE DAY! On Saturday, April 4, we're gonna need a big bunch of volunteers!
On site registration will begin at 9:00 am. Sandy Run Nursery staff will demonstrate "How to Plant a Tree", Kenton County Cooperative Extension Service will demonstrate proper technique for collecting a soil sample, and Kenton County Conservation District will explain "What Is a Riparian Buffer?" By 10:30 am, you'll be planting trees! Group leaders will demonstrate and oversee tree planting by volunteers.
Bring your friends, family members, and shovels and dig in! The first 200 volunteers will receive free t-shirts! Refreshments will be provided for all volunteers. And, when the day is done, each volunteer will receive a tree seedling to plant at home.
Directions are easy: Middleton-Mills Park located at 3415 Mills Rd., Covington, KY 41015 and it is easy to find! Take I-275 to Exit 79 (Covington-Taylor Mill). Go south on KY 16 seven miles to Mills Road and turn right. Go 1 mile and turn right into the main entrance to the park and follow signs. See you there!
