How Many IS A Million?

How Many IS A Million?

Save ´em! String ´em! Donate ´em to Kenton County Parks & Recreation!

We have reached another milestone! As of January 25, 2010, we have passed the more than two-fifths of the way to a million mark! That's right! With your help, we have now collected 400,000 can-tabs!

Want to see what a million bucks looks like? Yeah ~ me, too ~ but that probably won't be happening! Instead, and to see what a million of SOMETHING looks like, Kenton County Parks & Recreation is collecting 1,000,000 aluminum can tabs to be donated to the Ronald McDonald House. Collecting the little tab you pull to open your aluminum soda or soup can makes a significant impact on the Ronald McDonald House. The tabs are recycled to generate funds to offset House expenses. By collecting the tabs and turning them in to the Ronald McDonald House, we will help care for families who stay there during trying times each year.

To give you an idea of the magnitude of this project and what it's going to take to collect a million ~ 500 donated each week for a year would total 26,000 tabs. At that rate, it would take more than 38 years to collect a million. LUCKILY, we've already collected 400,000!!! So, let's see… At 1,000 a week, we'll reach 1,000,000 in a mere 11.54 years!!! Whew! I was worried there for a minute! But you can continue to help speed us to our goal ~ just by donating your can tabs to KCP&R!

"Nice bling", you say! To keep track of our numbers, we are counting out 500's and then putting them on a length of string to make a "necklace". If you want to go ahead and string them yourself, count out 500 and make your own string necklaces and bring them with you when you attend any of our programs, activities, and events, or if you have a whole bunch, call Steve at (859) 525-PLAY (7529) to work out a delivery or pickup.

No worries! We won't make you ´splain where so many came from! And, by the way, there is no need to wait until you have many, MANY thousands to donate! If we can build on our total each week, we will be able to keep being excited and our goal will be realized much sooner! We'll keep you posted! You keep collecting and donating!

With 400,000 tabs actually strung, we're just 600,000 away from a million! With your help, we will meet our lofty goal (if metal can be "lofty") and invite Ronnie McD to come and get ´em! Pass the word! Bring ´em on! Let's see what a million looks like and do some big time good while we are at!

Thanks, everyone, who has already collected and/or strung tabs! Hey, if you collect and donate or string can-tabs, please be sure to give us the names of those who collected or helped to string them. When our goal is reached, we will need 2,000 children/people wearing necklaces of 500 can-tabs each to do a "hands-across-the-park" chain when Ronald comes to visit and collect our million, and we want those who have helped to be there!

Save ´em! String ´em! Donate ´em to KCP&R for Ronald McDonald House!
