July 16, 19, 23, and 26, 2007
Moms, dads, grandpas, grandmas, aunts, or uncles! Wanna learn how to fish so you can take your kids and be "the expert"? Here's your chance!
Kenton County Parks and Recreation and Vikki Rawe, from the Kentucky Department of Fish & Wildlife Resources will facilitate this new program together and when you have completed your instruction, you will be ready to take your kids fishing and feel confident that you can do it successfully. In fact, we are so sure you will be ready, you can bring your kids on the fourth day and put your lessons into practice!
This program is free and NO KIDS are allowed during the first three days so you can have fun (the main ingredient for a successful fishing outing!) and be able to concentrate on learning the in's and out's of fishing. We'll have everything you need to fish – you might want to bring something to drink!
We will explain tackle – rods and reels versus cane poles, what species of fish you are trying to catch, how to tie on a hook, what bait to use, how to bait the hook, casting, reeling, setting the hook, catching a fish, taking the fish off the hook, and what to do with it once you catch it!
Fishing 101 for Parents will be held at Middleton-Mills Park on the Shelterhouse Pond that you see as you enter the park, and will begin each day at 1:00 pm. Meet at Shelterhouse 1. This program will be held on Monday and Thursday for two consecutive weeks beginning on July 16.
Directions to Middleton-Mills Park are easy! From I-275, take Exit 79 (Covington-Taylor Mill) and go seven miles south on KY Hwy. 16 to Mills Road. Turn left on Mills and go about one mile to the park, then follow signs to Shelterhouse 2.
