Doe Run Lake & Trails Cleanup

DOE RUN LAKE and NATURE TRAIL CLEAN-UP

Great American Cleanup

April 5, 2008

Doe_Run_bridgeKCP&R will facilitate the annual Doe Run Lake and Nature Trail Clean-Up, as one of the first events of the Great American Cleanup 2008, and provide citizens an opportunity to "Get Involved"  by picking up trash and litter and to explore one of the last remaining public natural areas in Kenton County. Participants will also be able to get a look at four new bridges that have been built on the Doe Run Nature Trail!

Come for the whole day or just part of the day. The Doe Run Lake and Trails Clean-Up is set for Saturday, April 5 and will begin at 9:00 am. A picnic lunch for all volunteers will follow at about noon. Rubber gloves and trash bags will be provided. Wear boots or old shoes and old clothes. It will be messy! Volunteers will collect and remove everything that should not be found in a County park, including trash, construction debris, automobile and truck tires, old fishing line, and an odd assortment of other objects not usually associated with Nature and the outdoors.

We will have our "Most Unusual Find" Contest again and it's always exciting! One year, it was a bowling ball; another year, it was two halves of an electric guitar! Need community service hours? We will be happy to sign your paperwork. The new permanent port-o-let will be installed and operable by then! Hooray!

At 9:00 am, members of OKI Geocachers will "Cache In, Trash Out" as they provide an introduction to the interesting and exciting hobby of Geocaching, a mix of high-tech and hiking! And, following the cleanup and during lunch, we will also have a very cool program provided by Crystal Clear Science called RiverWorks Discovery, A Journey of Exploration and Imagination on America's Waterways, beginning at noon, during lunch. RiverWorks is a hands-on, river-based curriculum that is designed to familiarize children and families with all aspects of their watershed.

Come on out to Doe Run Lake. The fun begins at 9:00 am! Take the Covington/Independence (Exit 80) off Highway 275. Go south (away from Covington) on Highway 17 (Madison Pike).  Look for signs in the area of Pioneer Park. Help us make a difference!

Call Kenton County Recreation at (859) 525-PLAY (7529) to see how you can help – we are always in need of volunteers and funding sponsors for our programs!
