Bridge-Building and Hiking Trails Workshop

October 7, 2006

bridge_builderBridges will eventually span every creek that drains directly into Doe Run Lake. When that is completed, you'll be able to hike/walk/run all the way around the lake, even after big rains.

This project has been in the planning stages for four years and thanks to a Recreation Trails Fund Grant and participation from Kenton County Fiscal Court, City of Erlanger, Northern Kentucky Sanitation District No. 1, Drees Homebuilders, and the Northern Kentucky Area Planning Commission, it is finally happening!

A day of bridge-building (for tool-toting adults) and hiking trails work (for everyone else) will take place on Saturday, October 7.  We will meet in the Drees Sherbourne subdivision on Richardson Road at 9:00 am.

bridge_builder2Kenton County Parks and Kenton County Public Works have already installed footers and supports for two bridges.  A picture is included.  Volunteers with power tools (sounds scary, doesn't it?) will handle the work of installing the floorboards, handrails, and fencing.  We have one generator but there are two different sites so a second generator is needed.  Got one?  Got tools?  We need you!

The work site is easy to find!  From I-75, take the Florence/Union exit. Go east to the 2nd stop light at Industrial Road.  Turn right and go to 1303/Turkeyfoot Road.  Turn right and go one-half mile to Richardson Road (just before the Sunoco Food Mart).  Turn left and go two miles to the Drees Sherbourne subdivision, which will be on your left. Look for signs.  Or, from I-275, take the Turkeyfoot Road exit and go south about six miles to Richardson Road.  Turn left and go two miles to the Drees Sherbourne subdivision, which will be on your left.  Look for signs.

Call Kenton County Recreation at (859) 525-PLAY (7529) to see how you can help – we are always in need of volunteers and funding sponsors for our programs!
