Kenton County Recreation Adult Softball Leagues Managers Meeting at Lincoln Ridge Park
March 18
Thank you for your interest in participating in Kenton County Recreation Adult Softball Leagues. This note is to inform all Men's Church & Women's C (or below) teams of a MANDATORY managers meeting scheduled for Thursday, March 18 at 7:00 pm in the Kenton County Public Works Administration office building, 420 Independence Station Rd. in Lincoln Ridge Park (formerly Banklick Woods).
We offer recreational softball in three leagues: Monday Men's Church A, Monday Men's Church B, and Friday Women's and this meeting is mandatory IF you have questions or concerns about the upcoming season. If you don't attend, then, by default, you'll have to live with any changes that happen! If you plan to play again in our leagues, or if you have interest in playing in our leagues, please call and let me know. If openings appear, the first new teams to call and express interest now will receive opportunities to join.
Everything to do with the season will be handled from this website: http://www.quickscores.com/Kenton. Please bookmark this site ~ you will be visiting it often. It is up and running and you can view last year's results.
What will begin to be seen as schedules are only drafts at this time ~ what you will see there now as your schedule may or may not be what you will see later. Those will be drafts to begin building this year's schedules. Once the new schedules have been built, be sure to give the web address to your players and fans; they can all use it and, hopefully, this will cut down on the calls to you and the calls to me. Schedule changes due to rainouts, if we have any, will be handled from the http://www.quickscores.com/Kenton site. Please familiarize yourself with the site!
Last year's 2009 Regular Season Champs and Tournament Champs were as follows:
- Monday Men's Church A: Community Family #1 won the league championship and Florence Church of God won the tournament.
- Monday Men's Church B: Immanuel United Methodist won the regular season and Immanuel Baptist won the tournament.
- Friday Women's: Bellevue Vets won the league championship. (Due to an unbelievably rainy late summer, the final game of the tournament will be held on the first week of the 2010 season.)
Directions to the meeting: From Turkeyfoot Rd South, turn left on Independence Station Rd., just past Richardson Rd. and a Sunoco Food Mart, and go about 2 miles to Banklick Woods Park. Once inside the park, take the first left, and go in the first building.
Fees for a 10-game season, plus a single-elimination tournament will be $250.00 per team. One dozen U.S.S.S.A.-approved softballs will be included in your league fee. Additional softballs will be available at $40 per dozen. Entry fees will be accepted on the night of the meeting and until Friday, April 9 for Women and Monday, April 12 for Men.
Umpire fees are $15 per team and are not included in your league fee. Each team will pay the Umpire directly before each game. A few words regarding Umpires ~ Without an Umpire, there is no game. Respect the Umpire.
We play under U.S.S.S.A. rules with a few of our own mixed in. Please become familiar with your rules book and the NEW KCP&R league rules! Keep both with you during games. Both the KCP&R rules and the U.S.S.S.A. rules can be viewed or downloaded from the http://www.quickscores.com/kenton site.
Be ready to begin your games on time! Games will begin promptly at 6:15 pm and 7:15 pm with an allowance for a 15-minute grace period for the start of the 6:15 pm game ONLY. If the 6:15 pm game starts at 6:30 pm, there will be a one-hour time limit for that game. The second game will start at or before 7:30 pm.
During the regular season, you may list as many as 20 players on your roster at any given time. You will be playing for a league champions team trophy, T-shirts, and tournament seeding, and then a winning team trophy and T-shirts in the tournament. And bragging rights for an entire year!
Ideally, we will have leagues with 11 teams each, which would mean there would be two games on fields each night during the regular-season and one bye, and a true round-robin season. Random pairings will rotate your schedule so that you'll play approximately the same number of games on each field.
There will be no games scheduled for the holiday weekends of Memorial Day (May 28 and 31), Independence Day (July 2 and 5), or Labor Day (September 3 and 6).
IMPORTANT: Please consider your reasons for playing Softball. Do you play for camaraderie and fun, where winning is not the only thing? Or would you prefer to play against only the best teams, try to win every game, and feel badly if you lose? Do you play for the fun of playing the game or do you play competitively to win? We offer RECREATIONAL softball for Men and Women. If most of the members of your team also play in another organized, competitive softball league, please consider NOT joining KCP&R leagues. Got questions? Call me.
We will determine exactly when the seasons will begin at the meeting on March 18. Historically, we have begun our games the last weekend in April.
Single-elimination tournaments for both Men's leagues and a double-elimination tournament for Women will be on Mondays and Fridays, respectively, at the end of the season for as many nights as it takes. KCP&R will provide softballs during tournaments; you will continue to pay the umpire for each game as you advance in the tournament.
Let's make 2010 an enjoyable season of recreational softball in Kenton County! Our rules are fairly simple. Play by the rules! Respect the Umpire! If rules changes need to be made, we will make them at the meeting. If you have questions before the meeting, please call Steve Trauger at (859) 525-PLAY or e-mail at steve.trauger@kentoncounty.org.
