World's Biggest Disc Golf Weekend

World's Biggest Disc Golf Weekend

May 3, 2008

In May of each year, Kenton County Parks & Recreation presents a local one-day "introduction to the sport" event at Banklick Woods Park as part of the national World's Biggest Disc Golf Weekend.  The fun begins at 10:00 am.

The World's Biggest Disc Golf Weekend will be held on over 200 courses across the country and abroad.  The WBDGW has introduced thousands of people of all ages to the game.  Nearly 100 new players participate at Banklick Woods each year.

What is Disc Golf?  Disc Golf is like (ball) Golf but played with a Frisbee or other brand of flying disc.  Disc Golf is a game you can easily learn – no matter your age or physical condition – so you will have fun right away!  It is free to play (no greens fees) and you can play nearly any day of the year – even in snow!  And it is not just for teens and tweens – it's all ages that are playing Disc Golf.  It's good exercise and it's fun!

Want to learn how to play?  Here is your chance!

There will be free demonstrations of the many types of "throws", including the Drive, the Approach, and the Putt.  There will be CTP (Closest to the Pin) Contests, Putting Contests, and Mini Disc Contests.

Don't worry if you've never tried Disc Golf or if the last time you threw a Frisbee®, it ended up on the roof!  Here's your chance to learn from some of the best Professional and Amateur players in Northern Kentucky and Greater Cincinnati.  They will be on hand to "Show and Tell".  Learn how to make the different types of throws – backhand, forehand, tomahawk, scoobie, and roller!  Learn how to increase distance on your Drive and improve your accuracy.  Experiment with different styles of putts and when to use them.  Learn the basics of playing Disc Golf, including basic rules of play and course etiquette.

The whole day will be dedicated to introducing new players to the game so bring your friends!  The "Rolf Frei" trophy disc will be awarded to the person who brings the most new players to our World's Biggest Disc Golf Weekend!

Entry fee is just $14 and includes a World's Biggest Disc Golf Weekend t-shirt and Innova brand Disc Golf disc (your choice of Aviar Putter, Valkyrie, Eagle, Roc, and others in DX plastic). We will also have an excellent supply of Champion Beast, Millennium Sirius Orion, and Innova Star Valkyrie, AND fly-dyed Beast and Orion available for an additional charge to go with your t-shirt.  Discs may be purchased separately.

If you ever thought you'd like to try Disc Golf, be at Banklick Woods on May 3 for the Worlds Biggest Disc Golf Weekend.
