Welcome to Kenton County Parks, operated under the direction of the Kenton County Fiscal Court!

 

Our eight shelterhouses are available for exclusive use by advance reservation and payment of a non-refundable permit fee. We begin accepting shelterhouse reservations for the upcoming season beginning on the first Monday in February.

 

For the following shelterhouses, the daily fee is $80: Lincoln Ridge Shelterhouse 3, Middleton-Mills Shelterhouse 2, and Pioneer Shelterhouse 1. The remaining shelterhouses, including Lincoln Ridge 1 and 2, Middleton-Mills 1, Pioneer 2, and the shelterhouse at Richardson Road Park may be reserved with a $65 daily fee. Or, with a $150 non-refundable fee, you may reserve a shelterhouse for up to one year in advance of your special event.

 

A shelterhouse permit entitles you to exclusive use of one shelterhouse from 9:00 am until dusk. You may pay with personal check, money order, or cash. To make your reservation, stop by the Kenton County Parks & Recreation office at 3902 Richardson Rd., Independence, KY 41051, located just inside the entrance of the Golf Courses of Kenton County. Office hours are Monday thru Friday 7:30 am ~ 4:00 pm. Call (859) 525-PLAY (7529) for shelterhouse availability.

 

Lincoln Ridge Park 420 Independence Station Rd., Independence, KY 41051

Amenities: 3 Shelterhouses, Restrooms, Playgrounds (one with ADA-accessible safety surfacing), Picnic Areas, Hiking Trails, 24-hole Disc Golf Course, Horseshoes, Soccer, Baseball, Sand Volleyball, Fishing, Link in Northern Kentucky Bluebird Trail, Winter Bird Feeding Station.

 

Shelterhouses 1 & 2 are separated by a large play structure with swings nearby; horseshoes courts are behind Shelterhouse 1; a large, grassy field is on the opposite side of Shelterhouse 2; and sand volleyball is across the parking lot. Shelterhouse 3 has a play structure with ADA-accessible safety surfacing; swings are nearby. All three shelterhouses have easy access to hiking trails.

 

Directions to Lincoln Ridge Park: From I-75, take Florence/Union exit, go east on KY42 to Industrial Road, go east (turn right) on Industrial Road 2.9 miles to 1303/Turkeyfoot Road, go south (turn right) on Turkeyfoot Road .6 mile to Independence Station Road (just past the Marathon), go east (turn left) on Ind. Station 2 miles to park.  From I-275, take Turkeyfoot Road/1303 exit (Exit 82), go south on Turkeyfoot Road 4.3 miles to Independence Station Road (just past the Marathon), go east (turn left) on Ind. Station Road 2 miles.

 

Middleton-Mills Park 3415 Mills Rd., Covington, KY 41015

Amenities: 2 Shelterhouses, Restrooms, Playgrounds (one with ADA-accessible safety surfacing), Horseshoes, Sand Volleyball, Hiking Trails, Fishing ~ Handicap accessible from Shelterhouse 1 by an elevated pier and stocked as part of the FINs program (Kentucky Dept. of Fish & Wildlife Resources ´Fishing In NeighborhoodS' program, Link in Northern Kentucky Bluebird Trail, Baseball, Soccer, Football, Concessions (during scheduled games and events), Winter Bird Feeding Station.

 

Shelterhouse 1 is next to a pond for fishing and photos. Shelterhouse 2 has horseshoes courts, an open, grassy field adjacent with easy access to hiking trails, sand volleyball, a play structure with ADA-approved handicap accessible safety surfacing with swings nearby, and basketball courts.

 

Directions to Middleton-Mills Park: From I-275, take Covington/Taylor Mill exit (Exit 79), go south on KY16 7 miles to Mills Road, go east (turn left) on Mills Road, go one mile to park.

 

Pioneer Park 3951 Madison Pike, Covington, KY 41017

Amenities: 2 Shelterhouses, Restrooms, Home of Kenton Paw Park (2 off-leash, fenced areas for dogs), playgrounds, Picnic Areas, Paved Walking/Biking Trails, Link in Northern Kentucky Bluebird Trail, Baseball, Basketball, Soccer, Tennis.

 

Shelterhouse 1 has horseshoes courts and a play structure nearby. Shelterhouse 2 has an adjacent play structure and tennis courts and basketball courts are nearby.

 

Directions to Pioneer Park: From I-275, take Covington/Independence exit (Exit 80), to south on KY17 2.8 miles to park.

 

Richardson Road Park 3415 Richardson Rd., Independence, KY 41051

Amenities: 1 Shelterhouse, Restrooms, Playground with ADA-accessible safety surfacing, Baseball, Basketball, Tennis.

 

Shelterhouse 1 is located atop a rise; horseshoes courts and one baseball field are adjacent to the shelterhouse.  There are two more baseball fields; basketball and tennis courts and a play structure with ADA-compliant safety surfacing are located a short downhill walk from the shelterhouse.

 

Directions to Richardson Road Park: From I-75, take Florence/Union exit north on KY42 to Industrial Road, go east (turn right) on Industrial Road 2.9 miles to Exit 82 (1303/Turkeyfoot Road), go south (turn right) on Turkeyfoot Road .6 miles to Richardson Road, go east (turn left) on Richardson Road .6 miles to park.  From I-275, take Turkeyfoot Road exit, go south on Turkeyfoot Road 4.3 miles to Richardson Road, go east (turn left) on Richardson Road .6 miles to park.

 

Doe Run Lake 1501 Bullock Pen Rd., Covington, KY 41017

Amenities: Doe Run Nature Trail, Hiking, Fishing, Link in Northern Kentucky Bluebird Trail, Boat Launch Ramp (no gasoline motors permitted), Remote Picnic Areas.

 

Directions to Doe Run Lake: From I-275, take Covington/Independence exit (Exit 80), go south on KY17 2.5 miles (past Pioneer Park) to Bullock Pen Lane, go east (turn right) on Bullock Pen Lane, cross bridge to stop sign, turn left on Old KY17, go .8 miles to park.

 

Locust Pike Park 9411 Locust Pike, Covington, KY 41015

Amenities: Located on the Licking River, Boat Launch Ramp, Fishing, Hiking Trail nearby.

 

Directions to Locust Pike Park: From I-275, take Covington/Taylor Mill exit (Exit 79), go north on KY16 1 mile to Grand Avenue, go east (turn right) on Grand Avenue 1 mile to KY177, go south (turn right) on KY177 1.5 miles to Locust Pike, bear left on Locust Pike, go 3.8 miles to park.

 

Bowman Field, George Locust Pike, Covington, KY 41015

Amenities: Picnic Area, Baseball.

 

Directions to Bowman Field: From I-275, take Covington/Taylor Mill exit (Exit 79), go north on KY16 1 mile to Grand Avenue, go east (turn right) on Grand Avenue 1 mile to KY177, go south (turn right) on KY177 1.5 miles to Locust Pike, bear left on Locust Pike, go 2.1 miles to park.
