Shelters are typically understaffed and underfunded and rely heavily upon donations of time and donations of blankets, sheets and dog and cat toys.   Consider the following ways to give:

Help Raise Funds through the "Please Give Them a Chance".
A $1.8 Million Capital campaign to raise a new animal shelter adoption center.

Volunteer Your Time:

Shelters are often in need of volunteers to walk dogs, bathe and groom animals and play with the cats. These animals are in a strange environment that is often loud and confusing. To get out and have a walk around the yard is a great treat. Some animals come in off the street and are dirty. A bath and some brushing could make them more presentable to a potential adopter. A few moments with a kind human could make an animal feel more loved and appreciated during this difficult time. Please contact your shelter to see if you can give an animal a well-deserved hand. Oftentimes shelters will have a minimum age requirement for volunteering in the shelter facility.

We also need volunteers for our fund raiser events.  We are trying to raise the money for a new adoption center.

Donate:

Shelters are always in need of pet toys, old blankets and towels, and other needed supplies. Please contact your shelter and ask what they most desperately need.

Donate your recyclable paper to the Animal Shelter's "Paper for Pets" fund raiser recycling program for a new Adoption Center.  Please click here for a community drop-off recycling bin nearest you.

Foster an Animal:

Many shelters have foster programs already set up. This program allows foster parents to house a dog or cat in their home until an adoptive family can be found. Many of the cats and dogs in shelters are unable to handle the pressure of the shelter environment. These animals are in need of a nice, quiet environment where they can feel wanted and loved. If you feel that you can provide a foster home and are willing to go through a shelter orientation and training program, please contact the Kenton County Animal Shelter for further information.

Spread the word about Spay/Neuter:

Help prevent the suffering of thousands of unwanted animals by spreading the word about spay/neuter. Shelters around the world are literally overflowing with homeless companion animals. More than 10 million adoptable companion animals are euthanized (humanely put to death) in shelters across this nation every year because of the pet-overpopulation crisis. Puppy mills (factory-like breeding facilities), "backyard" breeders, and accidental litters all contribute to this tragedy by bringing more animals into the world when there are not enough homes.

Altering (spaying and neutering) animals is the single most important step you can take to help combat animal overpopulation. Altering also provides health and behavioral benefits to animals!
