Adoption Stories

Joseph and new owner Joseph is a 9 month old German Shepherd. He came to the shelter with three littermates. Joseph's new owner sent this picture of Joseph and his owner on a hiking trip. The owner reports they all had a wonderful time. A great match!

Pete is a 2 year old dachshund mix. Pete was with us for a while and became a shelter favorite. Pete is now a wonderful companion to his new owner. We're so happy for them both!

Pearl is a 9 month old German Shephard. She was adopted about 4 weeks ago and is settling in nicely with her new family.

Shadow was adopted in late May. He and his young owner spend many hours playing frisbee and ball.

We adopted Sebastian in July 2004, and everyday has been better with him in our lives. I am not exaggerating! From the moment we brought him home, he rolled over, let us rub his belly, and slept at our feet. He LOVES the kids. I can't emphasize that enough! He is VERY protective of them, as well as us. He is our salesman repellant, as he barks when anyone comes to the door that he doesn't know. If our kids run away from him he barks, as if to alert us. He knows that when they cry, something is wrong. It is amazing.Never has had an accident in the house. He did, however, try to crawl in bed with us the first time it thundered last year......Each night, after we go to bed, he comes in and makes sure we are all asleep, I'm not kidding! Then he retires for the night.
He is a funny dog. He will do just about anything for an ice cube. If we are near the freezer, or if he hears the door open, he runs over. He loves his buttered toast crusts as a special treat. But he is a finicky eater - as you all know! It isn't cheap to feed him, but well worth it!. He has gained about15-18 pounds since we got him. But we are looking to get another 15 on him this next summer. He kind of sleeps a lot!
He loves the snow. His first day in it this year - he went crazy! Hopping and jumping around, rolling and lying in the powder. Taking HUGE mouthfuls of it! He goes out sledding with us. He loves it! However, he won't go out in the rain to use the bathroom unless we have an umbrella. Yes, he is spoiled beyond belief!
We enrolled him in the Banfields Wellness plan, so he can go to the vet anytime he needs to. And he does have special needs. He is prone to ear infections, and hot spots. Boy are they ugly! He can't make tears, so that's why everyone thought he had an eye infection. He will have to have surgery this year for those droopy lids that hang down too far, as well as his eyelashes that turn in and irritate him. I guess he will get an eye lift! He takes eyedrops everyday like a champ. The vets love him because he is a model patient. His hair has grown in curly and nice, and he loves his baths, after they are over and he is all clean! He runs around the house, and is shiny white and brown. He loves to be groomed. I think his record is about 1/2 hour of steady brushing.
He doesn't like other dogs - so he will be our only one. He knows that our 4 cats rule the house, and he even has one of them cleaning him sometimes. So they know he isn't all bad. I could go on and on. But he is wonderful. We are so fortunate that we saw him on Petfinder, and that you all felt we were worthy of adopting him!!!Thank you so much. He is a dream!

We adopted Nigel, and my good friend adopted Collin. Nigel is now Hugo and Collin is now Gunny. They are both doing great. I am attaching a photo of last Friday when we got the brothers together and let them play outside together. It was such a beautiful reunion. This photo was snapped when the dogs came in to get a snack. We plan on getting the dogs together on a regular basis. We couldn't be happier with our dog, and I know my friend Jo is just as happy with Gunny.

It has been a week now and I just wanted to let you know that Delila has been doing great. I have attached two pictures..one is the one you took at the shelter. The other is on her new bed...she refuses to lay on the floor...she must have her bed or she complains. I will have to get one for you of her racing around our 2 acre yard. She has the best time running around at top speed till she catches some good smell then she gets down and rolls in it a few times then she is off again. She is learning to play soccer with our daughter...sometimes to my daughters dismay, but they still have fun.
She and her "big" sister, Bobbette the dachshund, get along great. They have a fun time playing and talking to each other. Bobbette puts Delila in her place if she gets too rough and Delila always has something to say about it...As a matter of fact Delila usually has something to say about most everything. I rarely get the last word on anything. She has a wonderful time treeing our cats...in the house I might add. They are use to being hounded and are doing very well tolerating her jabbering at them...I am teaching her there is difference between Maine-coon and rac-coon...the past couple of days have been much better. I am confident things will settle down soon.
I cant tell you what a great addition she has been to our family. She is learning our routines and settling in well. She seems very happy and we simply love her. I know she was special to you...thank you for taking such good care of her. I will keep you posted with periodic updates if you would like.
